Why should your mural be a custom mural?

As time has gone in since our beginning in 2003, we have noticed that our clientele and designers really want more customization than what NOAA charts normally include.

Some examples:

  • Mark their home with a symbol such as an anchor or star

  • Fill in a missing street and label it.

  • Name key landmarks not included on a chart

  • Eliminate noxious NOAA labels such as “NO DISCHARGE ZONE”

Also, because not everyone has a blank wall for their mural, we can do layouts that include windows and doors shown as transparent rectangles to help our clients make sure nothing important on their mural will be cut out by a mirror, door, window etc.

For example here is a portion of a four-wall mural for one of our clients.

To make sure that the door, and sink cabinet will not take anything important out of the mural, we have made the gold door and sink area transparent gold. Note that the side of the sink cabinet is also indicated on the blue, green and red rectangles of the wall.

Once approved by the client, we then can create a printer’s file for the client to approve, then send to the printing phase. Once the mural is printed and has time to dry to set the inks, we can send it to the client.

Turnaround time is about three weeks or so.

Shipping is free.

"Skipper" Steve Morris has been sailing for more than 45 years. Whenever Skipper's sailor friends used to talk about their sailing adventures, it was not unusual for them to grab a chart, unroll it to a certain island or waterway, and tell a story of what happened during a particular voyage. As Skipper realized that nautical charts are used for navigating stories as well as passageways, the idea of nautical chart murals came naturally. What better place to tell a tale of the sea than in one's own home or office than with a beautiful nautical chart mural as the visual aid!

In 2013, he moved to the Coeur d'Alene area of Northern Idaho with his wife Linda. When Skipper is not working on murals, you can find him sailing his Erickson 27' on Lake Coeur d’Alene.

He continues to design custom-made wallpaper from nautical charts, satellite photos, topographical maps and favorite photos.
