Your Wallpaper Mural Design Kit - Ideal for "Shut Ins"!

I know what you are thinking. I’m inside, avoiding the Covid-19 virus. I’ve caught up with my reading, my binge watching my favorite TV shows, and now I’d like to do something with my home to liven it up. Change the look in a big way. But I’m in a stay-at-home situation like the rest of the country. What can I do?

Well, how about turn yourself into your own interior designer and do a mural on that wall you’ve been staring at for the past several weeks? All you need is an interior design kit.

And here it is. A tape measure, some graph paper, and your smart phone. What? you don’t have graph paper?

Sure you do. Go to https://www.printablepaper.net/click2.php and print out that page for a couple of sheets.

Now that your kit is complete, here’s what you do.

  1. Measure the height of your mural area on the wall, from the top of the baseboard to the bottom of the crown molding (or ceiling) Do this is two or three places and write down the largest of the measurements.

  2. Measure the width of your mural area on the wall, from the highest point you can reach safely to an place in the middle of the wall and lower on the wall. Write down the largest of the measurements.

  3. Using your graph paper, draw a rectangle of the mural area of your wall where one square equals 3 or 4 inches. The rectangle you arrive at is the exact height-to-width proportion of your mural.

  4. Now look at your wall. If there is a window, mirror, doorway or some obstacle, draw it in to your rectangle so that it appears proportionately where it is located. If there is something of particular interest such as a town or geographic feature, mark that on your graph paper.

  5. Now, what about the subject of your mural? If it is a nautical chart, click here and then choose the “Paper Chart” tab and zoom in until you find the chart you like. Write down the 5-digit number somewhere on your graph paper. If it is an idea of a photo, you can find a royalty-free photo from unsplash.com or if you have your own high definition photo, we can use that too.

  6. With your smartphone, take a picture of your completed graph paper drawing and your art and text it to: 801-367-7945. That’s it!

  7. We will take what you sent us create a layout for you to approve. Once you approve, our cost is $10 per square foot for the area charge + $170 for our computer work to make it a quality image when enlarged on your wall. Your will also have an opportunity to see a magnification study of how it will appear on your wall when enlarged, and to view the entire printer’s file before going to print.

It takes roughly three weeks to create your mural and have it delivered to your doorstep. We deliver for free and our UPS delivery person will ring the doorbell and leave it your doorstep if you don’t answer right away.

All that is left to do is hire a paperhanger to install your mural while you watch from at least six feet away from him/her!

And you never have to leave your home to do any of this! Take THAT you nasty virus!

"Skipper" Steve Morris has been sailing for more than 45 years. Whenever Skipper's sailor friends used to talk about their sailing adventures, it was not unusual for them to grab a chart, unroll it to a certain island or waterway, and tell a story of what happened during a particular voyage. As Skipper realized that nautical charts are used for navigating stories as well as passageways, the idea of nautical chart murals came naturally. What better place to tell a tale of the sea than in one's own home or office than with a beautiful nautical chart mural as the visual aid!

In 2013, he moved to the Coeur d'Alene area of Northern Idaho with his wife Linda. When Skipper is not working on murals, you can find him sailing his Erickson 27' on Lake Coeur d’Alene.

He continues to design custom-made wallpaper from nautical charts, satellite photos, topographical maps and favorite photos.
