Raising the Bar on Small Murals

The mural that reminds us “it is 5 o’clock somewhere.”

Some of my clients tell me that they don’t have large enough walls for a small mural, and since a small area is all they have, that is where the conversation ends.

But Steve Mayconich had a big idea for his small mural space. He wanted a mural of the South Carolina area as the backdrop for a Tiki Bar.

Judging from his set up, he seems to be fond of Moscow Mules and Margaritas in keeping with the Margaritaville theme he has going.

Notice how the paint on the side walls matches the tidal flats green of his mural and the dark green Margaritaville poster really stands out too.

As for as the chart, also notice how the river is situated between north to south between the two shelves.

It is a small space but very inviting for his guests to “belly up” to the bar and fix themselves their favorite libation. Very clever idea.

So what is your clever interior design idea? Could it be enhanced with a nautical chart mural? Let’s talk about it. Call or text 801-989-8083 and we’ll brainstorm with you.

"Skipper" Steve Morris has been sailing for more than 45 years. Whenever Skipper's sailor friends used to talk about their sailing adventures, it was not unusual for them to grab a chart, unroll it to a certain island or waterway, and tell a story of what happened during a particular voyage. As Skipper realized that nautical charts are used for navigating stories as well as passageways, the idea of nautical chart murals came naturally. What better place to tell a tale of the sea than in one's own home or office than with a beautiful nautical chart mural as the visual aid!

In 2013, he moved to the Coeur d'Alene area of Northern Idaho with his wife Linda. When Skipper is not working on murals, you can find him sailing his Erickson 27' on Lake Coeur d’Alene.

He continues to design custom-made wallpaper from nautical charts, satellite photos, topographical maps and favorite photos.
