Stairwell Well Done

Working with our client Philip Biber was a great example of how a great idea develops over time. When we started work, with were looking at a few ideas — The coast of Ireland, the islands along the southwestern coast of Florida, and the Florida keys.

Eventually, the focus turned to the Florida Keys, and as we worked with the space, the focus was to zoom in on the town of Islamorada located on Matecumbe Key in the Florida Keys.

Now we have created some Florida Key wallpaper before, but not with a single key zoomed in like we did. As you can see, it turned out magnificently as the width of the mural area was quite a bit wider than the height. — perfect for Matecumbe Key.

We were taken by the colors in this chart, and we did a slight bit of saturation to enhance the colors even more.

As you can see, the mural lives over a gorgeous stairwell, and the effect is quite nautical.

We are grateful to Philip for his patience in trying out the various ideas until this one came to him. It has been our pleasure to work with him and our other clients who think through mural ideas until the right one comes along.

"Skipper" Steve Morris has been sailing for more than 45 years. Whenever Skipper's sailor friends used to talk about their sailing adventures, it was not unusual for them to grab a chart, unroll it to a certain island or waterway, and tell a story of what happened during a particular voyage. As Skipper realized that nautical charts are used for navigating stories as well as passageways, the idea of nautical chart murals came naturally. What better place to tell a tale of the sea than in one's own home or office than with a beautiful nautical chart mural as the visual aid!

In 2013, he moved to the Coeur d'Alene area of Northern Idaho with his wife Linda. When Skipper is not working on murals, you can find him sailing his Erickson 27' on Lake Coeur d’Alene.

He continues to design custom-made wallpaper from nautical charts, satellite photos, topographical maps and favorite photos.
