Seeing is Believing

When I first began Nautical Chart Wallpaper 15 years ago, I realized that I had a major problem. I had a splendid product and a marvelous idea of creating wall murals from a nautical chart. However, potential customers could not see them as they were created for private homes and were not in any public places. Yes, we had pictures on our website, but that is certainly different than being able to walk up to a nautical chart wallpaper mural and actually see it firsthand and even touch it.

The bar at Martingale's Wharf in Portsmouth New Hampshire is nicely nautical with help from two Nautical Chart Murals.

Still, over the years I started to get referrals from friends of my clients who saw my work firsthand, and slowly (read it S-L-O-W-L-Y) my nautical chart wallpaper murals began to catch on.

Eventually, our murals began to be viewed in yacht clubs, restaurants, bars, hotels, and other public places. When that happened, I began to get calls from interior designers, and now about 75 percent of my work comes from designers.

The common denominator is that almost everyone who orders has seen a nautical chart mural somewhere and, once seen, they love the idea. "Seeing is believing" certainly has proven true in our business.

This spectacular mural of Vancouver Island is found in the restaurant at the Semiahmoo Resort in Blaine, Washington.

Therefore, in this year, 2018, our business plan is to focus on getting more nautical chart wallpaper murals displayed in public places. Our goal is to have at our murals in three or more public places in each state along our coastlines.

As an incentive, we will rebate $200.00 to any public establishment with good foot traffic, provided that we can have our cartouche as part of the mural. (See our home page for an example.)

This offer will be good throughout the 2018 calendar year and will expire on December 31, 2018. Give us a call at (801) 989-8083 or send an email to Info@nauticalwalls.com and we will discuss the details!

Best wishes for a prosperous New Year!

"Skipper" Steve Morris has been sailing for more than 45 years. Whenever Skipper's sailor friends used to talk about their sailing adventures, it was not unusual for them to grab a chart, unroll it to a certain island or waterway, and tell a story of what happened during a particular voyage. As Skipper realized that nautical charts are used for navigating stories as well as passageways, the idea of nautical chart murals came naturally. What better place to tell a tale of the sea than in one's own home or office than with a beautiful nautical chart mural as the visual aid!

In 2013, he moved to the Coeur d'Alene area of Northern Idaho with his wife Linda. When Skipper is not working on murals, you can find him sailing his Erickson 27' on Lake Coeur d’Alene.

He continues to design custom-made wallpaper from nautical charts, satellite photos, topographical maps and favorite photos.
